Web Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the last poker table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best players around the world. While wagering on net poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has no reason to play at the table with the min buy in.

Buying in for the min takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I think television can alter our view of the real world at times. The best players in the world may be players you have never heard about. Gus can be found participating in web poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in big stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in money rounds?
