Web High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the closing table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest gamblers anywhere in the world. While playing web poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.

Buying in for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe television can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest players anywhere in the world might just be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in money games?
