Net Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the final table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest players anywhere in the world. While participating in online poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He frequently participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amt.. I think television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players anywhere in the world could be players you have never heard about. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha hi-low and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in cash games?
