The Recorded History of Poker Chips

[ English | Deutsch | Español | Français | Italiano ]

Casino chips have been made from a varied selection of materials in an almost endless selection of variations since the birth of betting and the requirement to track winnings. The most familiar materials used at present in the creation of cutting-edge poker chips are plastic, clay, and acrylics. Clay chips, the primary of the bunch, have been manufactured in America since the late 1800s.

Back in the 1800s, poker enthusiasts seemed to use any small object with value you can imagine. Early poker players sometimes employed jagged gold pieces as well as chips – normally made of wood and clay. By the 1900s, poker chip features started to play a bigger prominence, and the smooth edges of older chips gave way to chips with ridges to hold them neatly stacked with each other.

There is no doubt that poker has increased steadily in universal appeal ever since its origin in the 1800s. With the huge increase of internet gaming and unique television shows, community appeal in poker has accelerated a lot faster than ever before. Most people are first introduced to poker by television showslike "Celebrity Poker" or the Travel Channel’s "World Poker Tour," and most will bet on their 1st hands on the internet. Regardless of online poker’s rise, not much replaces the feeling of mixing heavy clay poker chips in your hand, throwing chips into the center of a poker table, or stacking high pilesstacks of chips after showing a winning hand.
