Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about the game. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse comments from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.
Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
